Learn about the School Nurse Leadership Program Internship »

Healthy Schools Campaign is committed to diversity and equal opportunity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, disability or sexual orientation. People of color, women and individuals of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

An internship at the Healthy Schools Campaign is a challenging and rewarding educational experience designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in public health, environmental health, education, public policy, marketing & communications or nonprofit development and administration.

Working closely with HSC staff members, interns gain valuable skills and training in their field of interest.

While specific projects vary according to the organization’s needs and priorities and the intern’s academic and professional goals, internship opportunities are usually available in the following areas:

  • Public Policy Research
  • Program Planning
  • Fundraising/Special Events
  • Marketing & Communication

Responsibilities
In addition to specific projects, interns also contribute to the overall work of the Healthy Schools Campaign. Interns and supervisors will work together to determine an appropriate schedule and internship length. Generally, interns commit to working between 16-40 flexible hours per week for a period that ranges from two months to one year.

Benefits
While HSC internships are unpaid, travel costs are reimbursed and many students earn academic credit for their experience. The following benefits are extended to all interns:

  • Reimbursement for travel costs to and from the HSC
  • Free copy of the Fresh Choices cookbook co-authored by HSC Founder & Executive Director Rochelle Davis
  • A day at the Illinois legislature in Springfield with HSC Deputy Director Mark Bishop, if the legislature is in session.
  • Possible academic credit

HSC welcomes internship applications on an on-going basis. Applications for summer internships are generally considered between February and May; fall internships between June and September; and spring internships between October and January. Every effort is made to match the skills and interests of prospective interns with the needs and priorities of the organization.
